Question 1

How do culture prediction markets work?

Accepted Answer

An event lists the possible outcomes, for example every nominee in an award category, and each one has its own price. Buy shares in the outcome you expect; if it wins, each share pays $1.

Question 2

Where do the percentages on award and box office markets come from?

Accepted Answer

They are set by users’ orders on OCTORAX. Reviews, festival buzz, early box office numbers and insider predictions push prices up or down until the result is known.

Question 3

What is the smallest trade?

Accepted Answer

The minimum order is 1 in shares. Shares cost between 1¢ and 99¢, so long shots are cheap but pay off only if that outcome actually wins.

Question 4

How are entertainment markets settled?

Accepted Answer

They follow the official source named in the rules: the award ceremony itself, the chart publisher or the box office reporting service. The result is settled once that source publishes it.
